Cormorant Challenge: Join the interactive virtual challenge, where every photo, GPS check-in, trivia question answered or every kilometre walked helps raise vital funds for those who spend months at sea, keeping global trade moving.
Join us in the Ports to Peaks Cormorant Challenge—a virtual scavenger hunt that raises vital funds for The Mission to Seafarers.
How does it work?
Complete the tasks, and get awarded points, and try to get to the top of the leaderboard. The more tasks you complete, the more points you are awarded.
There's no minimum participation requirement, but the goal is to collect as many points as possible. These tasks vary from things like answering trivia questions relating to maritime or the history of Mission to Seafarers, checking in at GPS locations in your capital city (such as MtS centres), participating in social media challenges, uploading photos and other tasks. This option runs via the platform Scavify, and you can fundraise for it via our GiveNow page.
What type of tasks will I need to complete?
Photos - whether you’re a keen photographer or a selfie champion, you’ll have the opportunity to earn points by capturing photos that have links to Mission to Seafarers and maritime heritage.
GPS Check-Ins - visit a local Mission to Seafarers Centre or one of our sponsored GPS locations and check-in with the geotag to earn more points for the virtual scavenger hunt
Join the virtual Q&A - answer questions to top up your points balance and help push you to the top of the leaderboard!
QR Code - follow the QR code to earn some easy points. Remember it’s a virtual scavenger hunt, so the locations of the QR codes are often virtual. You’ll find them on our social media pages, our websites, and if you visit a centre you’ll be able to boost your points finding the QR code there (don’t worry, the information on how to find them is provided within the Scavify platform!)
Participate on social media - If you’re TikTok savvy you’ll be able to use that North Sea trending sound, or record your own sea shanty. And if you’re not, there’s plenty of other options for you to participate in our social media tasks!
Physical challenges - for the Kangaroos and Kiwis who can’t make it to Thredbo with us, you’ll have the chance to collect points for every kilometre you complete and log in Scavify.
How do I fundraise?
We run the Cormorant Challenge via the platform Scavify - this is where you setup your profile, access the challenges, and collect your points.
Like all our Ports to Peaks challenges, fundraising runs via GiveNow. It’s on GiveNow that you’ll set up your fundraising page to share and raise funds for Ports to Peaks, and we ask participants in this challenge to raise a $500 donation as the entry fee.
Don’t forget, we’re here to support you through all this too so if you’re finding it a little daunting, get in touch and we’ll talk you through it and answer any questions you may have!
Example Tasks:
Here are a few examples from our Melbourne tasks, but you can participate from anywhere in the world!
